On the morning of October 17th, 2023, joining the atmosphere to welcome another new school year, the University of Danang, Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (UD-VKU) solemnly held the opening ceremony of the 2023-2024 school year and honored the valedictorian, salutatorian, and outstanding freshmen students of the 2023 admission season, marking the beginning of a new school year, continuing the development journey, affirming the top prestigious and famous academic of the whole country with aspirations to achieve the international standard.

More than 1,500 freshmen students admitted in the 2023 admission season rejoiced at the opening ceremony of the 2023-2024 school year

VKU is honored to welcome delegates and distinguished guests attending the opening ceremony of the 2023-2024 school year as followed:

Ms. Le Thi Bich Thuan – Director of the Education and Training Department; Mr. Nguyen Quang Thanh – Director of the Information and Communications Department; Mr. Duong Hoang Van Ban – Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Department, who are leaders of administration departments, agencies, and branches of Da Nang City;

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thanh Bac – Deputy Director of UD, on behalf of Danang University; leaders of offices, functional departments, and organizations of the University of Danang; and representatives of leaders of member universities including Polytechnic University, University of Economics, University of Foreign Languages, UD Campus in Kon Tum, who are from the University of Danang;

Representatives from FPT Software Central Company; NiX joint-stock Education Company; Agriculture and Rural Development Bank (AGRIBANK), Tan Chinh Branch of South Da Nang; Investment and Development Bank (BIDV), Hai Van Branch; MOBIFONE Corporation of Da Nang City 2; Vinh Hoang An Construction, Design, and Consulting joint-stock Company; VNPT Corporation in Da Nang area; FSOFT joint-stock Company; and Institute of Information Technology, Hanoi National University, who are from sponsoring units and local businesses; and Representatives of the Director Board of high schools in the Central – Central Highlands region and parents of freshman students.

On the side of the University of Danang, Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (UD-VKU), there are Assoc. Prof. Dr.  Huynh Cong Phap, UD-VKU Rector, Party Committee Secretary; Dr. Tran The Son – Vice Rector, along with leaders of departments, faculties, centers, international experts and scientists of VKU and all office staff, lecturers, and students of the school. In particular, VKU welcomes more than 1,500 new students enrolled in the 2023 admission season, who are all attending the opening ceremony.

Speaking at the opening of the 2023-2024 school year, Assoc. Prof. Dr.  Huynh Cong Phap, UD-VKU Rector, sent congratulations to more than 1,500 freshmen students who have been enrolled to 14 training majors in the 2023 admission season and also sent gratitude and congratulations to the parents. In 2023, VKU continues to have a successful enrollment season, and is among the top universities with high entrance scores in the country and the highest in the Central and Central Highlands region. Admission scores continuously increased compared to previous years for all 14 training majors. The admission scores based on academic transcript review were from 24 to 26 points; and from 22 to 26 points from the results of the national high school exam. The average admission score in 2023 (equivalent to 24 points) increased by 2.0 points compared to 2022 and increased by 6.0 points compared to 2020 (first year of enrollment with the average score equivalent to 18 points). Noticeably, the number of candidates unconditionally admitted to the school increased very quickly with more than 400 students, accounting for nearly 30% of the total 1,538 enrolled students, bringing the total student population of the school to nearly 6,000 students. This year’s new valedictorian is Vo Ngoc Minh – a former student of Ton Duc Thang High School, Phu Yen province with an entrance score of 30.28 points, who received a scholarship worth 35 million VND funded by Da University, VKU, and businesses.

Besides, in the 2022-2023 school year, UD-VKU obtained many impressive achievements in many fields of training, scientific research, and many other activities. For example, many students won high prizes in national and international competitions; the percentage of students achieving Good and Excellent academic grades accounted for 17.90%; and the proportion of those with Fair Good category made up 44.2%. Especially, the rate of past school year’s graduates having a job after 6 months constituted over 90%. Those students had high salaries and worked for many large, and prestigious domestic and international businesses. Moreover, there are many 2nd and 3rd year students who have been recruited by large businesses while still studying at school. In addition, VKU also chaired and coordinated to hold many large national and international academic events and playgrounds such as MT-TN Informatics Olympiad; Information Security Competition; or 2023 CITA International Science Conference. The university also chaired the establishment and building of the Asian Consortium for Innovation and Research (ACIR) to promote research and innovation; organized the event to mark 30 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Korea in the Central region. In particular, VKU has also started the ODA project worth 7.7 million USD of the Korean Government for the period 2022-2027, aiming to construct and develop VKU to become a Vietnamese university with international rankings. Typical evidence is that the Digital Science and Technology Institute (eSTI) has been launched and in operation of implementing many effective research and academic programs for staff and students of the University.

On behalf of Danang University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thanh Bac – Deputy Director of UD, on behalf of Danang University specially congratulated the leadership team, officers, and lecturers of VKU for uniting, striving, and achieving honorable achievements, turning VKU into a new reliable tertiary institution for students and the whole society even though it has just been in operation for nearly 4 years. As the focal point of educational innovation activities, VKU has been trying to become a prestigious scientific research and training center in the region and the world. VKU aims to provide learners with a highly specialized undergraduate, postgraduate, and scientific research environment which ensures learners, after graduation, to be qualified enough to work in an innovative environment, meeting the constantly changing requirements of modern society. The Vietnamese Government, the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam and the Korean Government have considered VKU as one of the universities that need to focus on investment and development in the role of an important member of UD, in the context that UD has been selected to develop into one of three national university centers. In addition, VKU is also one of the three schools chosen by Da Nang City and Da Nang University to be the main unit in training human resources for the upcoming Semiconductor Circuit industry. Thereby, it is expected that VKU will take advantage of all opportunities, seize every good chance, and mobilize all resources to constantly strive for academic values and human values, build strong human relationships, and create and develop the ever-growing VKU brand.

It has been a tradition that the opening day of each school year is also the day to honor the valedictorian and new students with outstanding academic achievements. At the opening ceremony of the 2023-2024 school year, VKU honored and awarded scholarships from sponsorship sources from businesses, Danang University, and VKU to freshmen students as followed:

The valedictorian title – 2023 admission season was awarded to Vo Ngoc Minh (former student of Ton Duc Thang High School, Phu Yen province) – The entrance score: 30.28 points – The course enrolled: Logistics Management and Digital Supply Chain – Scholarship value: 35 million VND.

1st Salutatorian Title – 2023 admission season was granted to Dinh Phuc Tuan Nhat (former student of Ly Tu Trong High School, Ha Tinh) – The entrance score: 29.67 – The course enrolled: Information Technology (Engineering System) – Scholarship value: 25 million VND.

2nd Salutatorian Title – 2023 admission season was given to Student Trinh Duy Hieu (former student of Nguyen Hue High School, Thua Thien Hue) – The entrance score: 29.59 – The course enrolled: Information Technology (Engineering System) – Scholarship value: 20 million VND.

10 freshmen students with the highest entrance scores for the 2023 admission season who got the scholarship worth 10 million VND are as followed:

With the training spirit of Humanity and Dedication, VKU understands the difficulties and hardships facing new students who come from difficult circumstances but always persist and strive to excel in their studies. Therefore, it awarded 20 scholarships to those having high admission scores and coming from difficult circumstances, with each scholarship worth 2 million VND. Hopefully, these awards will be a great incentive for those students to be steadfast on their studying journey under the roof of VKU.

In addition, in the 2022-2023 school year, VKU students had achieved many outstanding achievements in studying and training. The school awarded certificates of merit to 18 outstanding students in the 2022-2023 school year with rewards of 2 million VND each and 5 most proactive students in the activities of Communist Youth Union and the Youth movement with rewards of 1 million VND each.

The opening ceremony of the 2023-2024 school year and honoring the university’s valedictorian and outstanding students successfully ended in the joy and excitement of all school officials, lecturers, and students. The cheerful atmosphere on the opening day will be an incentive for new students to successfully complete their upcoming academic journey under the common roof of VKU – a classy public university in the Central Region.
