The Korean Ambassador in Vietnam encourages and supports VKU to become a leading university in Vietnam that meets the international standard

On the afternoon of October 27, 2023, in response to the invitation of the new the Korean Embassy in Vietnam, the delegation led by Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector of Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU) visited and worked with the Korean Embassy in Vietnam. Also attending were Dr. Nguyen Quang Vu – Head of Science, Technology and International Cooperation, Dr. Pham Nguyen Minh Nhut – Head of Personnel and Administration Department, Dr. Le Ha Nhu Thao – Deputy Head of Testing and Quality Assurance Department, MA. Vo Hung Cuong – Deputy Director of Learning Resources and Communications Center.

At the Korean Embassy, Mr. Choi Young Sam, the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea in Vietnam, welcomed and chaired the meeting with the VKU Delegation, along with Mr. Yang Ki Sung, Scientific Attache and Ms. Yoo Su Learning Resources and Communications Center Yeon, Deputy Director of KOICA Vietnam.
Opening the session, Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap, on behalf of VKU leaders, staff, lecturers and students, respectfully thanked the Korean Government, the Korean Embassy and KOICA Vietnam for constantly encouraging and supporting VKU during the past time. Noticeably, the project that aims at improving education-training, management and research capability of Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology for the years from 2022 to 2027 worth 7.7 million USD from the non-refundable ODA capital source from the Korean Government through KOICA (referred to as the Korean ODA project) has contributed to VKU’s outstanding achievements in the past school year. For example, VKU was the first university in the Central region to launch the specialized training in Integrated Circuit design Engineering. Admission scores were much higher compared to previous years for all the 14 majors/training majors of the university. Meanwhile, VKU has launched the Information Technology Engineer Training Program – Korean Language Enhancement. Especially with the initiative to establish the Connection and Development Forum of the ASEAN Consortium for Innovation and Research (ACIR), held for the first time in Vietnam, it has connected the network of leadership communities and scholars of Southeast Universities in Asia, aiming to promote innovation and scientific research.

At the Korean Embassy working session, Mr. Choi Young Sam, the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea in Vietnam, was very impressed with the achievements of VKU in recent times such as: the constantly increasing training quality, the high number of students having jobs after graduation, and the professional skills of VKU students which have been highly appreciated by Korean business organizations. Besides, Mr. Choi Young Sam highly appreciated the efforts and dedication of VKU to achieve outstanding successful results, with an amazing growth from 600 students in 2020 to 6,000 in the present year of 2023. Mr. Choi Young Sam stated four goals that the Korean Government guides for VKU to achieve, as followed:

– Developing VKU into a leading university in Vietnam and an internationally ranked institution;

– Investing in developing information and communications technology human resources for Korea and the global market as part of developing VKU;

– Connecting Korean business organizations and higher education institutions to develop training programs in the fields of information technology and Integrated Circuit design Engineering at VKU;

and

– Enacting policies to send experts, volunteers, and educational organizations to enhance Korean as a foreign language competency for VKU’s students.

The Ambassador also hopes that VKU’s outstanding students will have more opportunities to be granted scholarships from the Korean Government to study undergraduate and postgraduate programs as well as to work in Korea. He said, to accomplish this, the Korean Embassy would be more proactive in influencing the Government, Universities and Businesses of Korea to accompany and support VKU.

Before ending the working session, Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap respectfully thanked the Korean Embassy for their warm and solemn welcome. As VKU’s Rector emphasized, VKU is highly aware that its success embodies the cooperation and friendship between Vietnam and Korea. He also expressed his high appreciation for the affection of the Korean people for Vietnam. Therefore, he stated that the VKU’s leadership, staff and lecturers are always responsible and determined to develop VKU into a leading university in Vietnam and an internationally ranked institution. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap also respectfully invited Mr. Choi Young Sam, the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea in Vietnam, to arrange a visit and working section at VKU.
