VKU signed a cooperation agreement with KFIA, the leading semiconductor system association in South Korea
Continuing the business trip in South Korea, on May 28, 2024, the delegation from the University of Da Nang (UD) and the Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (UD-VKU) had a working session, signed a cooperation agreement with the KFIA (Korea Fabless Industry Association), and visited Hana Micron Corporation, a leading company in semiconductor packaging and testing in South Korea.
An overview of working session
The delegation included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu, Director of UD; Assoc. Prof. PhD Huynh Cong Phap, Rector of VKU; Assoc. Prof. PhD Nguyen Thanh Binh, Chairman of the Council of VKU; PhD. Tran The Son, Vice Rector of VKU; representatives from UD’s International Cooperation Department and VKU’s Science, Technology and International Cooperation Department.
On the Korean side, Mr. Seogyun Kim, Secretary-General of KFIA, and Mr. Hoo Ki Min, Director of Hana Micron, warmly welcomed the delegation, demonstrating the strong friendship between Vietnam and South Korea.
During the working session, Mr. Seogyun Kim, Secretary-General of KFIA, warmly welcomed the delegation and introduced KFIA as the nation’s largest fabless industry representative organization of Korean system semiconductor design companies. KFIA creates a platform for cooperation among member companies and other organizations, representing the fabless industry to the government and the National Assembly. Its aim is to create a healthy ecosystem for the growth of the Korean system semiconductor industry. The association consists of companies in the system semiconductor field and promotes the development of human resources for mutual growth among industries, institutions, and research organizations.
On behalf of the delegation, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu, Director of UD, expressed gratitude for the warm reception provided by KFIA and Hana Micron. He shared that the University of Da Nang is a regional university with 6 member universities, 3 affiliated units, nearly 2,600 staff members, and more than 60,000 students in various fields. The University of Da Nang has a vast international partner network and is currently focusing on the development of semiconductor training and research. The University of Da Nang is receiving attention and investment from the Vietnamese Government, particularly in the Da Nang University Urban Area project, aiming to become one of the top three leading centers for education and scientific research in the country, with a reputable international position.
Assoc. Prof. PhD Huynh Cong Phap, Rector of VKU, also expressed gratitude towards KFIA and Hana Micron for their gracious reception and trust in signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with VKU on semiconductor training and research. He shared the university’s strengths in fields related to information technology and semiconductors. VKU is a leading university in the country for training in information technology, communication, and digital economics. He also shared that Da Nang city is focusing on attracting investment in the semiconductor and AI fields, particularly in investing in semiconductor workforce training. VKU is playing a key role in AI and semiconductor training with many incentives for students. VKU is also making efforts to promote and connect investors, ICT businesses, and Korean semiconductor companies to Da Nang city, as well as collaborating in expert exchanges and organizing specialized workshops in semiconductor design, packaging, testing, and validation processes.
Mr. Seogyun Kim and Assoc. Prof. PhD. Huynh Cong Phap signed a MoU
Additionally, during the working session, representatives from KFIA and VKU signed an MoU on cooperation in semiconductor and AI training and research. It is hoped that through this MoU, VKU will have access to advanced training programs in semiconductor design and AI in the near future. The signing of the MoU between VKU and KFIA also demonstrates the roles and responsibilities of the University of Da Nang (UD) and VKU in promoting and connecting Korean ICT and semiconductor businesses to invest in Da Nang city. At the end of the working session, the delegation visited the modern semiconductor research and testing facility at Hana Micron Group.
