Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU) welcomes and works with the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) to discuss collaboration in graduate education.
On the morning of October 2, 2024, VKU hosted a meeting with representatives from JAIST to discuss collaboration in graduate education.
Overview of the meeting
Attending the meeting from JAIST were Prof. Kazuhiro Ogata, Director of the Advanced Computing Infrastructure Research Center, Prof. Mizuhito Ogawa, and Prof. Nguyen Le Minh. From VKU, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector, along with heads of departments and centers, participated.
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector of VKU – shares his thoughts at the meeting
At the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap warmly welcomed the JAIST delegation and expressed excitement over their visit and engagement with VKU students in the fields of Information Technology and Computer Engineering Technology.
VKU, established in 2020, annually admits 1,500 students with an average entry score of 24 across 16 majors and minors in information technology, communications, and digital economy. VKU has grown to nearly 7,000 students, with a target of 8,000–9,000 students by 2025. The faculty consists of over 250 people, about 70 of whom hold Ph.D. or Associate Professor titles, representing about 41%. In addition, VKU has focused on connecting and building a network of over 200 strategic partners including domestic and international organizations and enterprises participating in the training process, job recruitment and sponsorship, implementing training cooperation programs in bilingual English, Japanese, Korean, etc., and implementing many activities, playgrounds, international academic-cultural exchange programs, implementing practical projects, internships, business cooperation, enhancing foreign language teaching, especially 100% of students’ graduation theses are written/presented in English.
VKU, with the mission of a leading public university and a key supplier of high-tech human resources for the country and Da Nang city, has announced a Master’s training program in Information Technology, which is built and implemented according to international standards along with a very special support policy for learners. Accordingly, VKU plans to enroll 40 Master’s training targets in Information Technology (code: 8480201), within 2 years (including 4 semesters, 60 credits). The training program is designed according to the orientation of in-depth research and especially focuses on foreign languages, international orientation and integration. Students participating in the Master’s training program must meet all foreign language requirements to be able to study 100% of the modules in English. Students will study, research, and work with lecturers and professors not only domestically but also internationally in in-depth research fields, especially important fields such as semiconductor microchips, artificial intelligence, etc. To graduate, students, with the guidance and instruction of lecturers, will have to have scientific papers published in prestigious international scientific conferences and journals.
Professor Kazuhiro Ogata shares his insights at the meeting
Professor Kazuhiro Ogata, representing JAIST, expressed his gratitude to VKU for the warm reception and shared that JAIST, founded in 1990, is an independent public university dedicated to advanced research and graduate education at both the Master’s and Doctoral levels in science and technology. Supported significantly by the Japanese government, JAIST has been positioned as a world-class research institution, aiming to develop professionals equipped with a strong foundational knowledge and diverse interests, capable of thriving in the fast-evolving landscape of science and technology. Over the past 30 years, JAIST has partnered with numerous universities in Vietnam, successfully training more than 700 master’s and doctoral students.
During the meeting, both sides discussed collaboration through the 1+1 Master’s transfer program and the 4+2 program (4 years at VKU and 2 years at JAIST). These postgraduate training programs are supported by scholarships from the Japanese government (MEXT) and JAIST’s scholarship fund, ensuring the best possible learning and research conditions for VKU students when studying in Japan. Both parties also plan to co-organize a Summer Research School for students in technology and engineering fields at VKU in 2024. They agreed to proceed with signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to implement these collaborative initiatives soon.
Overview of the seminar presented by Professor Mizuhito Ogawa
During the visit, the JAIST delegation had a session with over 250 students from VKU’s Information Technology major and Computer Engineering Technology major, where they shared insights on the direction of Malware Analysis research. This area intersects artificial intelligence (AI) techniques with software engineering, aiming to guide students in exploring new AI-driven solutions for detecting and analyzing malware. Additionally, the session helped students gain a deeper understanding of how to integrate AI and software engineering to address security issues in today’s information technology environment.
