Assoc. Prof. PhD. Nguyen Thanh Binh – Chairman of VKU Council, Representative of the second meeting chair spoke.
The project is co-coordinated by the University of Commerce and the Francophone University Agency with the goal of guiding and supporting higher education institutions in Vietnam in particular and Southeast Asia in general in building and implementing a management system towards ecological transformation.
The project is implemented with 3 main pillars: (1) Be responsible for consumption and purchasing: Reduce negative impacts on the environment (waste production, greenhouse gas emissions, etc.). In addition to the need to minimize waste generation at the source (responsible consumption), it’s necessary to establish or generalize selective sorting to recycle and recover more waste, there by increasing both the type and quantity of recyclable materials. This recycling and recovery itself can contribute to the development of energy sectors and reduce the amount of products and resources consumed. (2) Optimize electricity, water and energy consumption: Promote actions to raise new awareness, with specific targeted information on the energy impact of digital use; Plan to organize training sessions for the staff (and students) to make further progress in energy savings; Motivate behavioral change to foster the use of sustainable modes of transport to reduce environmental impacts and greenhouse gas emissions due to transport activities: encourage the staff (and students) to use less polluting means of transport and suggest alternatives. (3) Manage green spaces and biodiversity expanding on the territory sustainably: Raise awareness and training on issues related to green spaces; Protect biodiversity associated with boosting knowledge about the surrounding nature among the staff (and students).
