On the morning of August 29th, 2024, Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), the University of Danang, was honored to welcome representatives from companies and investors in the semiconductor microchip sector (including Ansys, Sioux Technologies, Uniquify, Savills, Cushman & Wakefield, Kangnam, K&H, VietPat, SaigonTel, Nomikai, Tecotec, Microchip Vietnam, Talentnet Corporation, ASIC, and Irtech). This visit was part of the Semiconductor Microchip Day in Da Nang 2024, aimed at exploring and promoting collaboration between businesses and the university in the field of semiconductor microchips, as well as fostering the development of high-quality human resources for this key industry.
Overview of the working session
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Tran The Son, Vice President of the university, who warmly welcomed the business and investor representatives for their visit and survey. This visit provided an opportunity to connect businesses with the university.
VKU is a leading public university in training and research in information technology, communications, and digital economics. It is at the forefront of curriculum innovation and teaching methods, with 100% of students completing their theses in English. The university offers a comprehensive educational approach encompassing moral, intellectual, physical, and aesthetic development. VKU is also a pioneer in launching and training new fields in Industry 4.0, notably being the first in the Central and Central Highlands region to offer semiconductor microchip engineering programs starting in 2024. VKU has played a significant role in collaborating with reputable partners such as the Institute of Information Technology – Hanoi University of Science and Technology, and Synopsys, training the first batch of lecturers in Da Nang comprising 24 selected faculty members from various universities, and offering upskilling courses in semiconductor microchips for final-year students to meet the urgent demand for high-quality human resources in this sector.

Dr. Tran The Son further mentioned that since 2021, VKU has been training in embedded systems, IoT, and various electronic circuit design and microprocessor courses. The university is now implementing specialized programs in semiconductor microchip technology. VKU employs 30 full-time faculty members in electronics, semiconductor microchips, and computer engineering. Regarding infrastructure for semiconductor microchip design training, VKU boasts modern facilities and has made significant investments in laboratories and research centers equipped with advanced technology, supported by numerous reputable domestic and international partners. Notably, VKU has established the Semiconductor and Smart Technology Hub (VKU-SSTH), which houses top-notch equipment for teaching and research purposes. In 2024, VKU enrolled its first students of semiconductor microchip design with an entry score requirement of 27 or higher (based on high school transcripts and national exam results) with 72 out of 60 student slots confirmed. Additionally, VKU has transitioned 100 students from the Computer Engineering program (classes of 2022 and 2023) to the Semiconductor Microchip Design specialization.
Through discussions and exchanges between business representatives, investors, and the university, VKU hopes to initiate meaningful cooperation programs in the near future, contributing to the development of semiconductor microchip human resources for Da Nang City in particular and the global market in general.
