On August 24-25, 2023, the Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), the University of Da Nang with Phenikaa University, and Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City in cooperation with the University of East Anglia (UEA, United Kingdom) organized “training-the-trainers workshop to enhance the employability of students in the new digital world”. This is a 5/12 number activity within the project framework and directly organized VKU.

Representative unit in charge of Activity 5 under the project, Assoc. Prof. PhD. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector of VKU University shared: “With the philosophy of “Humanity – Dedication – Liberation” in order to build and develop VKU into an international academy, over the years, training quality, research as well as all VKUs activities have been raised to a new level and affirmed the prestige of a leading university in the Central – Central Highlands region as well as the whole country in the field of Information Technology, Communication and Digital Economy. The project to enhance the employability of students in the new digital world is very meaningful and important for VKU as well as Vietnam universities. Accordingly, VKU has been strategizing to train high-quality graduates not only for the domestic market but also for the global market by developing necessary employability skills for students and improving training programs towards internationalization and experiential learning.

Within the framework “Going Global Partnership” program of the British Council, the Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology, the University of Da Nang and Phenikaa University, Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City cooperated with the University of East Anglia (UEA, UK) to participate in the project “Enhancing on transferable employability skills in new digital world” with the goal of becoming international standard universities, while contributing to the overall development of higher education in Vietnam.
Activity 5 of the project has set the goal: Training the trainers on methods and strategies to include employment skills in the design of curriculum in digital transformation world, with specific contents:
1.Overview of needed skills to increase job opportunities from the perspective of lecturers, students and employers.
2.Implement courses to improve UEAs employment opportunities, specific 1-year internship situations of UEAs.
3.Practical internship program of VKU students.
4.Improve students employability with PU, IUH case studies.
The UK-Vietnam Partnership Support Fund aims to improve quality and promote the internationalization of higher education to support capacity enhancing, knowledge exchange and higher education cooperation activities between UK and Vietnam from system level to grassroots level in the fields of leadership and governance university; Higher education program qualification benchmarking and quality assurance; Teaching and Research, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer.
The project was implemented within three years, lasting from January 2022 to March 2024. The total funding of the project amounted to more than £100,000. Four universities: University of East Anglia, Phenikaa University, Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology – University of Da Nang, Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City are the beneficiaries.
At the same time, the Project provides programs and activities aimed at three goals: Strengthening partnerships between Vietnamese and UK universities and enterprises, improving Vietnamese IT training programs towards internationalization and experiential learning, creating a platform for meeting and exchanging knowledge/experience between UK and Vietnamese higher education institutions and technology enterprises.
