On the morning of October 12, 2024, the 6th Youth Creativity Festival in 2024 with the theme “Digital Transformation – Innovative Startup Space” and the awarding of “Danang University’s Student Scientific Research Awards in the 2023-2024 academic year” were organized by the University of Danang. This is a meaningful event to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment and development of the University of Danang (1994-2024).

At the 2024 Festival, the Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), University of Danang, showcased 5 outstanding products derived from its students’ scientific and technological research projects.

The “Building and Developing a Model to Identify Mispronunciation in Vietnamese” project won the Third Prize at the “Danang University’s Student Scientific Research Awards in the 2023-2024 academic year 

With the “Building and Developing a Model to Identify Mispronunciation in Vietnamese” project, a student team consisting of Nguyen Ket Doan (20AD), Tran Nguyen Anh (21GIT), Vo Van Nam (21SE3), and Nguyen Tran Tien (20SE5) from the Faculty of Computer Science, under the guidance of Dr. Nguyen Huu Nhat Minh, focused on building a specialized dataset for Vietnamese mispronunciation. This dataset includes recordings from students across the three regions of Vietnam—North, Central, and South—featuring local accents collected via a dedicated data collection website and recordings of foreigners pronouncing Vietnamese using OpenAI TTS. Additionally, the team developed a model that uses audio and standard phonetic translation to accurately identify mispronunciations. By leveraging the embeddings from both the phoneme and language encoders, the model offers a robust solution for precise mispronunciation detection. The project secured the Third Prize at the Danang University’s Student Scientific Research Awards 2023-2024 and has advanced to the Final Round of the Danang City-level Student Scientific Research Competition 2024.

At the 6th Youth Creativity Festival in 2024, four groups of VKU students showcased a variety of projects, including:

  • “DaNang NLP Plugin – Children Learn Vietnamese Safely,” created by Phung Thi To Trinh, Le Dinh Phuc, Duong Cong Cuong, Pham Van Ngoc Vinh, and Le Tang Phu Quy, under the guidance of Dr. Nguyen Huu Nhat Minh. This project earned the Third Prize in the fourth “Technology Startup in Students” competition (InTE_UD 2024).
  • “GenZ Mental Health – A Social Networking Platform to Support Mental Health Improvement for Young People,” developed by Nguyen Le Huu Duy, Nguyen Hai Duong, Nguyen Khac Thinh, Nguyen Duc Bao, and Hoang Van Hieu from the Faculty of Computer Science, under the guidance of Dr. Nguyen Huu Nhat Minh. This project reached the TOP 15 of the 4th Student Technology Startup Competition (InTE_UD 2024).
  • “Research and Experimental Implementation of a Fire Detection and Alarm System Integrating IoT and Image Processing Using Machine Learning,” presented by Tran Huynh Anh Nhat, Tran Thi Kim Nhu, Nguyen Anh Duc, Nguyen Huu Huy, and Trinh Dam Minh Quan, guided by Dr. Vuong Cong Dat. This project participated in the VietFuture 2024 award.
  • “Old Battery Collection System,” developed by Tran Thi Kim Nhu and Ho Bao Nguyen, also a participant in the VietFuture 2024 award.

The 6th Youth Creativity Festival 2024 concluded with numerous remarkable highlights, serving not only as a platform for scientific exchange but also as a launchpad for innovative startup ideas. The projects of VKU students demonstrated a spirit of learning and research with high potential for real-world applications, contributing to solving practical issues. The enthusiastic participation and achievements of VKU student teams at this year’s festival reaffirm the University’s leading role in nurturing creativity, supporting students in research, and driving technological innovation.
