Speaking at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector of the university showed his warm regards and deep gratitude, along with best wishes to all generations of leaders and teachers. Vietnamese Teachers’ Day  – November 20 – is the day for the whole country to express gratitude to teachers. It is also an opportunity for staff and students of the university to review the glorious tradition and to show respect for leaders and teachers through the years. This year’s anniversary has even more special meaning when the University simultaneously holds a Decision Announcement Ceremony and gives Certificates of quality accreditation for 3 training programs that meet the educational quality accreditation standards of The Ministry of Education and Training. This event has marked an important milestone on the journey to affirm the prestige and quality of VKU with the aspiration of becoming Vietnam’s leading and internationally ranked university.

Although VKU has only been established for more than 3 years with many obstacles due to objective conditions and the Covid-19 pandemic, it has gradually achieved outstanding results with strong determination as follows:

First: having a strong leadership and administration system which is full of ethics, intelligence, energy, enthusiasm and responsibility as well as the internal solidarity and the devotion for the profession of the staff.

Second: the number of civil servants and lecturers, especially lecturers with Associate Professor and PhD degrees, has increased rapidly in recent years. Specifically, the university currently has nearly 60 Doctors and Associate Professors, accounting for 41%. This is a valuable resource for VKU’s aspiration to become a leading and internationally ranked university in Vietnam.

Third: the quality of the training programs is affirmed. VKU continues to be chosen by students and their parents, which is proved by the high entrance scores of the past 2 years. VKU’s entrance scores are among the top universities and is the highest one in the Central and Central Highlands. The scores continuously increased compared to previous years for all 14 majors. The average entrance score in 2023 (~ 24 points) increased by 2 points compared to 2022 and increased by 6 points compared to 2020 (first year of admission, average at ~ 18)); The number of candidates admitted directly to the university increased very quickly, more than 400 students, accounting for nearly 30% of the total 1,538 enrolled students, bringing the total students of the University to nearly 6,000 students. In particular, the University has successfully accredited 3 training programs according to the educational quality accreditation standards of the Ministry of Education and Training. The university has developed and opened 15 new majors, especially those with urgent needs of the society such as Semiconductor IC, Artificial Intelligence, Communication Technology,… as well as has completed the opening and training for international master’s training programs. In addition, VKU has also applied new training methods towards liberalization and internationalization, has deployed many activities, academic and international culture exchanging programs, and has implemented internships, cooperation, modules taught by foreign languages, especially 100% English written/presented graduation dissertations.

Fourth: foreign affairs, international cooperation and business relations have elevated VKU to a new position. Outstanding milestones are the commencement of the 7.7 million USD ODA project of the Korean government for the period 2022-2026 to upgrade VKU to a leading and internationally ranked university in Vietnam; The event to celebrate 30 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Korea at VKU with more than 3,000 delegates and students in the Central; VKU also initiates and chairs the MT-TN Informatics Olympic Competition with more than 2,000 excellent students in the whole country; Celebrates and develops CITA scientific conferences for 13 times, a major international conference in the Central initiated by VKU; Presides over the establishment of the community including the institutions training information and communication technology in Southeast Asia (ACIR) and FISU Central – Central Highlands (FISU); Becomes a member of ASEAN IVO and many large organizations and associations; welcomes and signs cooperation agreements; works with many high-level delegations of domestic and international organizations and businesses such as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Korea, Consuls General of Korea, Japan, Ireland, leaders from ministries, branches, cities, universities, and international businesses to create research and study opportunities for lecturers and students…; Cooperates with NiX education, Fsoft to successfully implement the IT engineering program taught by Korean and Vietnamese language, cooperates with Nam Long Group to build a new Technology research and laboratory (with the estimated value of 25 billion VND)….

Fifth: look for financial support and successfully implement the University’s facilities and infrastructure projects, whereby VKU has “changed its skin and flesh” day by day with a green, clean and beautiful campus and modern facilities. The highlight of the last academic year was the opening of the Innovation Space and the Institute of Digital Technology Science contributing to the development of excellent research and innovation for staff and students.

Sixth: the material and spiritual living conditions of the staff have increased significantly. The average total income of the staff reached 2.7 times of the basic salary. This is doubled compared to 2020 when the university was established. In particular, the university’s additional salary, administration fee, benefits, and lecture fees are approaching the ones of top universities among the University of Danang and the Central and Central Highlands. In addition, many activities such as team building, sport competitions and art performances have contributed to the improvement of the spiritual life, creating excitement, pride and happiness of the university’s staff and students.

Representative for leaders of The University of Danang awarded Certificates of Merit from the Ministry of Education and Training to individuals for their outstanding achievements

The initial successes of the University have created new situations on the path of becoming a leading and internationally ranked university in Vietnam. However, the University also faces many challenges including: society’s requirements to provide high-quality human resources for the integration period and for the global market. In particular, the 4th industrial revolution with the strong development of artificial intelligence and robots, such as ChatGPT has gradually replaced traditional education. Therefore, every teacher, staff, and student of the university needs to be more proactive and dynamic, promoting the spirit of openness, innovation, and determination to overcome obstacles, especially in foreign languages and in application of new technology to upgrade the university.

To overcome those challenges and difficulties to achieve the goal of becoming a leading and internationally ranked university in Vietnam, VKU needs to continue to invest and focus more on ensuring and improve quality, set the goal of university accreditation by 2025, and deploy domestic and international accreditation of all the university’s training programs. Continue to pursue large projects to improve the university’s infrastructure and facilities with a complete ecosystem serving training, research, innovation and start – up activities such as Research and innovation Space, Marker Space, Smart Lab, Start-up incubator, Co-working space, International Conference Area, VKU Hotel, Vietnam – Korea Cultural Square, Nightlife area and standardized sport area for boarding students, modern lecture halls, etc. Develop a team of high – qualified lecturers. At the same time, continue to open and provide quality training for newly opened majors such as Semiconductor IC, Artificial Intelligence, Communication Technology, Fintech,… as well as open international Master’s training programs…
