How I wish I had a Kindle…..
Nicole, this one is for you….
- What is your monthly mortgage payment?
- What arethe APRs on your Credit Cards?
- How many more car payments do you have?
- How much was your last electric bill?
- What is the square root of 144?
So, how many answers do you know? A few months ago, I would have only known number 5. I used my credit card to charge everything and assumed it got paid in full monthly. HA!
Reality came when I opened a credit card bill and almost lost my lunch.
My husband does a fine job of handling the bills, but I had no concept of how much we actually spent. In retrospect, I should have asked. I just never thought to. I guess I assumed we had little fairies paying our bills. (I suspect these are the same fairies I thought were cleaning our house)
I developed a spreadsheet similar to this to figure out what our fixed bills were. I then took a deep breath. I then multiplied everything by 12 to get an approximate yearly cost. I then took another, deeper breath. Exhaled. And started to look for ways to save. Aggressively.
You know the saying “There is no such thing as a free lunch”? It’s true.
Signing up and receiving freebies are incredibly exciting, but nothing is ever truly “Free”. You will usually have to put your email into the form they are providing.
Do yourself a favor and make a free gmail or hotmail account so all the newsletters, emails, requests and like will not clutter your mailbox.
You can thank me later.
Betty Crocker has a very nice Best of 2011 e-cook book available for download. You may need to join Betty Crocker’s newsletter. But, it is a win-win. You will also be able to print coupons from their site!
I saw a bunch of recipes I will try! (That is what I call impressive)
I am working on organizing myself. I set up this sheet to help plan my meals & shopping trips. I like that I can separate the lists. I leave the menu on the fridge & take the shopping list in with me.
I have been saving 20-30 bucks a week and I wasn’t even trying! We are eating out less & saving more.
